I opened one eye to find her face blurry above me, then twitched my hand with the intention of checking my scalp for blood, only somebody had shoved a whole bunch of big fat pointy railroad spikes into the flesh of my right forearm.

“Get me a bus down here right goddamned now,” she said.

I tried saying, Fuck the bus, how ’bout a goddamned ambulance? but all that came out was “ Aaaamn…”

“She’s coming around.” A man’s voice.

I lifted my head, saw stars, and blacked out again.
